    The Blood Runs Thick

There is truly nothing more fulfilling than listening to a record and knowing without any doubt, without equivocation, that the final product is precisely what its creator intended it to be. That at the record’s core lie the heart of its producer, unfiltered and true. Circumstances such as these, as few and far in between as they may be in today’s musical environment, provide the listener with an intimate, self-rendered snapshot of an artist’s progression both in life and in music at a particular time in their development. Such a view into the heart, mind, and soul of an individual artist lends itself to a far greater appreciation for the maturation that occurs with each release. Void of any outside pressures or expectations, any undue influences (cough big bad major label executives cough), an artist is free to choose how his/her message is delivered to those that wait ever so patiently for it - for those who actually care to hear it; the fans.

To this degree, Kevin Devine’s new record (Due out April 28) Brother’s Blood is undoubtedly a victory to be shared by himself and his fans.

It’s odd really; to get so overly excited over such a laid back, unassuming batch of songs. After several listens however, it’s the type of quiet and thoughtful sonic triumph that warrants such exultation. As fans have become accustomed to with Kevin, Bones is a rather polarizing presentation; a record thats soul rests somewhere in between the slow, indistinct wispers and the unbridled, impassioned doses of disonance. And here, barely two years or so after having his Capitol Records debut essentially shelved barring little-to-no push, KevDev is back with his darkest and moodiest release yet, something fans should be extremely excited for.
