What a wonderful mess we have here

I thought about giving up (many times). I thought about other jobs I could do. And then I thought about my baby boy growing up and telling him…when times are tough and you feel like you should stop what you’re doing and you have no more strength to keep going and you feel like your brain is melting every day because you can’t stop hoping to find a way to get out of your mess…if you just believe that you can…you can. If you believe in what you do you can do anything. If you love the people with you…you will find the strength. I want to tell him that and believe it.

I finally feel like I am being honest with myself in my music. I have never been more proud or happy with anything I’ve ever created. I’ve never believed in my music this much. So, I’m not trying to change the world. I’m just trying to believe, and I do for the first time in a long time.

    Fan-funded projects; the future?

The use of various social media to reinvent the way artists create, distribute, and promote their projects should be of great interest to industry professionals; a great selection of other means can be found over at Mashable.

If you ask me, the service Kickstarter is providing is a special one. Not only does it ensure artists rely solely on the means they have at their own disposal, but it significantly increases the role consumers and fans play in the production of their favorite music. By doing so, the fan-artist relationship will hopefully reach new and exciting heights.

It’s great to see the DIY spirit still alive and well in the midst of a failing industry.

    Spanish American

While The Seams aren’t reinventing the genre wheel, I can’t wait for the release of their debut record, Spanish American. Here’s just another taste of what’s to come along with a small track description from front-man Jonathan Lullo.

“Stay” is the first song I wrote after DTEA broke up. I did a little writing with a friend in Los Angeles (Kevin Ridel) while writing for DTEA’s second record, and it completely changed the way I approached songwriting. I kept the different tricks he had taught me in mind while writing this track, and I feel like it helped set the tone for the kind of songs I wanted to do with The Seams. Also, while it’s a fleeting moment, it’s the first track where I got to bust out my remedial slide guitar skills.
